Review of Shuri By Nic Stone

No surprise that I love writing but I'm also a voracious reader. I am a Shuri fan and love seeing stories that delve deeper into her character. Nic Stone has written a younger version of Shuri (age 10) so it's neat to see this younger character.

Spoiler Alert. If you haven't read this book. Stop here if you don't want to get a few spoilers.

Here's my review of Nic Stone's Shuri:

Overall, I enjoyed the storyline. I liked how Shuri was focused on building her inventions and technology. She created lots of gadgets that helped save Wakanda, proving to everyone that she was much much more than a Princess. Some fun American movie references and I enjoyed the best friend relationship between her and K'Marah.

Since Shuri is only ten, some great realism when the adults actually collect the villains. Namely, I was very happy to see Storm make an appearance. Very good story for upper elementary and middle grade readers who love science and technology.

My only complaint is that I would’ve liked more emphasis on Shuri being motivated by her own desires instead of so focused on her role as T’Challa’s sister and helper. In some parts, it felt like Shuri needed a voice of her own. I did enjoy the world building and Wakanda references.

Very good read. 4 out of 5 stars.
