On the Grief Journey: Being Creatively Courageous in Healing

On the Grief Journey: Being Creatively Courageous in Healing

My grief journey has been tough this week. I’ve had three heavenly birthdays in a row: My Grandma, Mother-in Law and Son.  The waves of grief have been crashing down on me really hard.

Hard not to feel like I’m drowning.

Amazingly, my grandmother’s memory has kept me moving.  My latch hook project helped me to reconnect and remember her in a special way. One of the things I admired about my grandmother was her ability to return to the University at age 50. She graduated with high honors and received a Bachelor’s degree in Art Therapy.

My grandma was an artist but her love of Art Therapy was about using art and creativity to heal.  She taught me to be creatively courageous in healing. Remembering her through my latch hook project made me realize that I needed to add more creative projects back into my life that were meditative, calming and relaxing.

With all of my compounding grief, I’ve been looking forward each night to Diamond Painting. It’s been challenging and fun but most importantly, it helps me to focus and remember the gifts about those that I’ve lost. Refueling my well helps me get centered and heal.

If you’ve lost someone special to you, how do you show creatively courageous healing?
