Come Back to Center

There are moments in history that rattle the collective soul.

This past weekend, over 6 million Americans rose up across 2,000+ cities for a grassroots protest known as No Kings. In a bold act of resistance, communities across the country reclaimed space, voice, and presence in response to Trump’s $45 million “birthday” parade that attempted to rewrite truth, silence dissent, and overshadow both the Army's birthday and Flag Day.

And now, this week, as we approach Juneteenth (a celebration of freedom), I’m feeling drained. [YouTube Link]

When Quiet Resistance Meets Media Overwhelm

Here's what I discovered this week—and maybe you felt it too.

My husband and I chose a different kind of resistance on Saturday. Instead of attending the large-scale protests, we made our statement intentionally: wearing our Barack Obama throwback shirts and sharing our quiet but powerful “#BarackObamaDay” and “#NoKingsDay” message on social media.

Then we went to our local Mexican restaurant and had tacos—because of the meme saying “Trump always chickens out (TACO)”, and we figured we'd eat while celebrating the leadership he could never match. But it was more than satirical defiance. We were also intentionally supporting our Latino community, knowing they're under attack from ICE raids and unjust deportations. Our dollars, our presence, our solidarity—all acts of resistance wrapped in one delicious meal.

But here's what I didn't expect: the emotional drain that followed.

Saturday and Sunday night, we found ourselves glued to the news, scrolling feeds, watching coverage of the historic protests. The media noise was intense. The conflicting narratives were exhausting. By Sunday evening, even though we hadn't been in the physical crowds, I was completely spent—spiritually drained from absorbing all that collective energy.

That's when it hit me: Even quiet resistance takes a toll. I thought because we protested "lightly" that I shouldn't feel exhausted. I thought only people who attended big rallies would need recovery time.

But here's what I realized: Whether you marched in the streets or made your statement online, whether you attended rallies or wore your values on your shirt—we all absorbed the collective intensity of this historic moment. And that intensity requires intentional restoration.

When we protect our peace, we protect our power. When we center ourselves, we disrupt their chaos. When we restore our nervous systems, we stay in our clarity—not their confusion.

The Truth About Protest Fatigue (Even From the Sidelines)

Many of us are feeling a complex mix of:

  • Pride in our collective action (however we showed up)
  • Grief from confronting systemic injustice
  • Fire that needs sustainable fuel
  • Emotional overload from media manipulation and conflicting narratives
  • Nervous system dysregulation from absorbing collective stress—even from our couches

Here's what I realized: You don't have to physically march to feel the emotional impact of millions rising up. You don't have to be in the crowds to absorb the collective energy of resistance and hope and grief all swirling together. If you've been feeling overstimulated, foggy, anxious, or stuck in loops of worry or rage after this weekend, you are not alone. You are not weak. You are tapped into truth.

And that truth-telling requires sacred self-care.

When the World Shakes—You Come Back to Center

Whether you protested in the streets, online, or in your own quiet way, you showed up. And showing up in any form during historic moments like this takes energy we often don't realize we're spending. You were never meant to carry this much alone. And yet, like our ancestors,  you keep rising. But rising doesn't mean running on fumes. It means pausing. Grounding. Remembering your breath. This is why I created the Come Back to Center meditation.

Your Meaningful Assignment This Juneteenth Week

You don't have to choose between resistance and rest. You don't have to choose between truth-telling and self-care. You don't have to burn yourself out to burn down injustice. Whether you marched, posted, or simply held space in your heart, you showed up. And every way of showing up matters. But now it's time to restore.

This Juneteenth, Choose Your Sacred Rebellion

Choose your peace. Not as retreat, but as resistance.
Choose your power. Not as force, but as flow.
Choose your center. Not as hiding, but as healing.

Because when you stand in your sacred calm, you become the storm they can't touch. When you restore your frequency, you disrupt their chaos. When you fill your cup first, you can keep pouring into the change we need.

The revolution needs your voice—however you choose to use it. But first, it needs your peace.

How did you show up for resistance this weekend? And what are you doing this week to restore? Share in the comments, your story might be exactly what another warrior goddess needs to hear.
