I Held the Lore Book in My Hands. And Knew It Wasn’t Done.

The Unboxing Moment...
Recently, I opened a box that’s been months—maybe years—in the making. The Oya Warrior Goddess Lore Book. Printed. Bound. Real.
My husband stood beside me as I cut the tape and pulled it free. The second the cover caught the light, we both froze. Our jaws dropped. This hardcover was gorgeous. Stunning. Glossy. Mythic. We couldn’t stop touching it—like it was humming with something ancient. I held it in my hand and felt… pride. Power. Like I was holding a piece of myself that had finally come home.
The Creator’s Eye Kicks In
But then, I did what every creator does after the awe:
I started inspecting.
Turning pages. Checking bleed lines. Flipping to the chapter spreads. And something pulled at me.
Not quite a flaw. Just… a disconnect.
- The chapter headers? They didn’t reach the edge like they were meant to.
- The top trim? A little too tight.
- The full spread moments I’d envisioned? Still living in my head, not on the page.
My husband had to gently stop me. “Don’t nitpick,” he said. “This might be the best thing you’ve ever made.” He was right. It felt like something good. It WAS something good.
But It’s Not Done Yet!
I could already tell that the chapter pages needed more than a graphic fix. They needed to breathe. They need to command the spread like the myths they held. I don’t yet know exactly how I’ll fix it. But I do know this: I have to. This is a premium collectible. A legacy piece. And it deserves to be right.
A Mirror Moment...
I snapped pictures. Sent them to my mom.
Beamed with excitement. Floated with joy. But I realized something in that moment, too:
This wasn't just a milestone.
It was a mirror.
And instead of keeping it to myself, I want to share this vulnerable moment with you.
Letting the Storm Rise...
Because this is a storm-in-progress. It’s a celebration, yes—but also a mission. I’m close to launching something powerful. But I’m not rushing it. I’m letting it rise fully formed.
