Inspiring Confidence with Style: An Interview with Kenya Moss-Dyme on Embracing the Superhero Within
In this special interview, I’m thrilled to feature Kenya Moss-Dyme who shares her passion for strong, empowering imagery. Kenya is a fierce advocate for positive representations of Black women in superhero roles. Kenya wears her Silver Soldier "I AM A SUPERHERO" T-shirt with pride, spreading a powerful message of resilience and strength. She opens up about her experience with the shirt, how it connects to her own life, and why she believes we need more visual representations like this in the world today. Alicia: Can you tell us when you first purchased your T-shirt and what inspired you to do so?
Kenya: I’ve been following you on YouTube (and FB) for a long time and have been a big fan of the "superwoman" imagery and what it reflects, the messaging. I have a grand daughter (4) that's always at my heels and she is fascinated with the videos when I play them. So I was excited to order a shirt and not only support the vision but to spread the message. We need more of these types of visuals in the world!
Alicia: Do You think this shirt will become one of your favorites?
Kenya: It absolutely already is! Not only does it fit really well, the graphic is bold and colorful and eye-catching. I need to get more so I can wear them more often.
Alicia: What made you decide to wear the shirt when you were out and about?
Kenya: It's so pretty, I have to show it off! Can't just stay at home with it! It catches the eye and I think makes a statement about my own confidence! Look, I love Wonder Woman just as much as any other Gen X who grew up on her, but where is OUR Wonder Woman? So I'm thrilled to wear my Silver Soldier Superhero shirt in public. Would love to get a bag too.
Alicia: How does the shirt make you feel when you wear it?
Kenya: It screams confidence and daring and I feel proud to be seen. It's so fashionable and has a flattering cut so you can't help but to feel cute(r)!
Alicia: Have you received any compliments while wearing the shirt?
Kenya: The cashier at Michaels said it was a "cool shirt" while I was in there buying my usual crafty items, but he was a young white dude so he wasn't going to ask where to buy one for himself, lol. I need to wear it out to an event where people are likely to want to know how to get one for themselves.
Alicia: Anything else that you’d like to share about your purchase?
Kenya: I absolutely adore these products and plan to get more designs and items. I wish you so much success on getting these products all of the recognition they deserve. Maybe one day we will see them on the shelves of our favorite retail stores so young girls can wear them proudly!
Alicia: Please let everyone know more about you and your business.
Kenya: Well, I'm an author and I write primarily horror and thrillers, but I am also growing my business to include horror and bookish-themed merchandise such as tees, bags, notebooks, magnets, stickers and more! I enjoy making merchandise that sprouts from the characters in my books, kind of making them come alive so you can be fully immersed in the story. But I also create and curate items that are just fun, unusual and unique, with a focus always on the dark, the love of reading - or both!
